Gilbert LAFFAILLEGilbert LAFFAILLE, singer-songwriter, was born in Paris in 1948. He studied literature and became a French teacher.

He left teaching and worked for several years as a tourist guide (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.)

His first album was released in 1977 and was noticed by Claude Nougaro. He plays with Gilles Vigneault, is programmed several times at "Théâtre de la Ville de Paris" and has since continued to tour in France and abroad (around twenty countries), until L'Olympia (1995), Le Bataclan (1996), L'Européen (2013). He wrote and composed one hundred and fifty songs, recorded twelve studio albums, three public albums, two compilations, published two collections of texts, a DVD, two illustrated albums for young people and several books, notably one on his grandfather, a writer and the other on his career as a singer (Kaléidoscope,Éditions Christian Pirot). He is also the author and performer of humorous sketches which he regularly performs on stage.

In 2023 after the Barjac Festival, two memorable evenings, sold out three months previously, which received ten-minute standing ovations, he decided – so as not to put up too much of a fight – to stop the stage without writing.

His songs have been performed by many artists: Francesca Solleville, Michel Fugain, Chanson Plus Bifluorée, Romain Didier, Allain Leprest, Véronique Pestel, Entre-deux-caisses, Les Octaves, etc. but also Fernando Marquès (Portugal), Barbara Talheim (Germany), Alessio Lega (Italy) Denis Alber (Switzerland), Guillermina Motta (Catalonia), Christiane Stefanski (Belgium), Naomi and Aoyama Keiko (Japan).

His texts are regularly used for the study of the French language in school books abroad.

During his career, he received numerous awards, including : le Grand Prix du Festival de Spa, le Prix de la Presse Internationale, le prix Raoul Breton (Sacem), le Prix de l'Académie du Disque Français, le Grand Prix Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros.

He is "Chevalier des Arts et Lettres".

Two box sets were published by EPM, Les Beaux Debuts & La Valse Bleue, covering almost all of his discography (six 70' CDs) with interviews with David Desmeuraux and Alain Poulanges.
