Gréco CASADESUS

Born into a family of artists, Gréco Casadesus trained at the Paris and Versailles conservatoires. At the age of 22, he began his career as artistic director of EMI's classical department, where he worked with great masters such as Rostropovitch, Prêtre, Maazel and Bernstein, enriching his musical language and orchestration style.

Realising his own creative potential, he quickly turned to composition, taking advantage of the advent of electronic instruments to use them in his orchestral writing.

To date, he has composed around a hundred musical works for the cinema, theatre, television, chamber music and symphony concerts.

As a producer, he has produced several albums (under the Opus Millésime label), a show (Les Trois Mousquetaires font du Cinéma) and a concert of images (Sept Mouvements de Vie) in tribute to Etienne-Jules Marey, the inventor of cinematographic movement. He is also the founding chairman of the UCMF (Union des Compositeurs de Musique de Film), set up in 2002.

His commitment to defending copyright has led him, since 1994, to become involved in several professional commissions of Sacem (the society of authors, composers and music publishers), notably the Commission de l’Audiovisuel, of which he has been chairman three times, and the Programmes Commission, on which he currently sits.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a composer, artistic director and teacher, he devotes part of his activities to helping people discover the many facets of the profession of composer of music for the screen, particularly through his lectures and masterclasses.
