Yvette HORNER

During her seventy-year career as an accordionist, Yvette Horner gave over two thousand concerts and recorded one hundred and fifty albums,

Known to the general public for her participation in numerous Tours de France, this outstanding musician regularly renewed herself both artistically and in terms of dress.

In the 1980s, she changed her hair color from brunette to red, and adopted more extravagant stage outfits (such as the famous “Tour Eiffel dress”) created by couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier, who made her one of his muses”.

In 1989, she took part in the Bicentenary celebrations of the French Revolution, performing on the Place de la Bastille. The following year, she starred in a revue at the Casino de Paris directed by Yves Mourousi. In the 1990s, she appeared on stage with Marcel Azzola, then was applauded at the Théâtre du Chatelet in choreographer Maurice Bejart's Nutcracker. Not to mention the 45T single “Play Yvette”, which stands out in her repertoire.

In 2009, she took part in the La plus grande guinguette du monde tour, giving her last concert in 2011. Meanwhile, her autobiography Le Biscuit dans la poche was published in 2005.  In June 2006, the musician began work on a documentary about her life with Canadian filmmaker Damian Petitgrew.

Her life... her work also inspired other artists.

In 2008, the musical La Madone des dancings, les mille vies d'Yvette Horner, adapted by Eudes Labrusse and directed by Dominique Verrier, was presented at the Avignon Off Festival. The show was inspired by the radio series “Les Grandes Histoires d'Yvette” broadcast on France Culture in 2005.

In 2011, singer Julien Doré invited her to take part in the recording of his album “Bichon”. As for her own career, a new and final Yvette Horner album, entitled Hors Norme, was released in May 2012, produced by Patrick Brugalières. Guest artists include Lio, Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano and Marcel Amont. The cover is illustrated, of course, by Jean-Paul Gaultier.

These are her last two studio recordings, which are offered to you on this site.

In terms of honors, she was very proud to have been decorated by three Presidents of the Republic!  François Mitterrand, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Nicolas Sarkozy.
